Custom Tugboat Fendering System for Shipyard Applications
This project was completed as a customized tugboat fendering system, combining cylindrical rubber fenders, D fenders and W fenders for different protection areas on tugboats.
For tugboat applications, a single fender type is often not enough to cover all contact positions. The bow, side shell, working deck edges and high-impact contact zones may require different rubber fender profiles. In this project, YT Marine manufactured and arranged multiple fender types according to the tugboat protection layout, helping the shipyard prepare a complete fendering package for installation.
Cylindrical Rubber Fenders for Main Impact Protection
The long cylindrical rubber fenders were used as the main energy-absorbing components in this tugboat fendering system. Cylindrical fenders are commonly selected for tugboats because they can provide large contact areas, flexible installation and reliable impact absorption during pushing, berthing and vessel assistance operations.
For this project, the cylindrical fenders were manufactured in long sections and prepared for shipment according to the required installation arrangement. Matching nylon slings were also prepared to support the installation of the cylindrical fenders.
D Fenders for Side and Edge Protection
The project also included customized rubber D fenders. D fenders are widely used on tugboats, workboats and shipyard vessels for side protection, edge protection and local impact areas.
Compared with large cylindrical fenders, D fenders have a compact profile and can be installed along selected contact zones where stable rubber protection is required. In this project, the D fenders were produced with customized dimensions and inner holes to meet the installation requirements of the vessel.
W Fenders for High-Contact Tugboat Working Areas
W fenders were supplied as another important part of the tugboat fendering system. This type of ship bumper is commonly used in demanding tugboat applications where high friction, repeated contact and strong side protection are required.
The W fender profile provides a wide rubber contact surface and strong structural support, making it suitable for tugboat working areas exposed to frequent pushing and vessel contact. For this project, the W fenders were manufactured and packed together with the other rubber fender components.
Nylon Slings for Cylindrical Fender Installation
In addition to the rubber fenders, nylon slings were also prepared for cylindrical fender installation. These slings were arranged for the CY800 cylindrical fenders and shipped together with the main fender order. The nylon sling was used as part of the installation arrangement, helping the shipyard handle and secure the cylindrical fender during installation.
For tugboat fendering projects, YT Marine can also assist with related installation accessories based on the fender layout, drawing or site requirements. This allows the project to be supplied not only as individual rubber fenders, but also as a more complete fendering package for shipyard installation.
Production, Packing and Shipment Preparation
All fenders were produced, inspected and packed according to the project requirements before shipment. The rubber fenders were arranged on pallets or in suitable packing methods depending on the fender type, size and loading plan.
For large tugboat fendering projects, packing is an important step because different fender profiles may require different handling methods. Long cylindrical fenders, stacked D fenders, W fenders and installation accessories must be arranged carefully to support safe transportation and efficient unloading at the shipyard.
