Description
YT Marine manufactured foam-filled marine cushion protectors for a repeat client in Malaysia.
A foam-filled marine cushion is used to protect ships, docks and port structures during berthing, mooring and vessel movement. It uses foam material inside to absorb impact and a protective outer coating outside to resist seawater, UV exposure and abrasion.
For this project, the client required small straight-type foam-filled fenders for ship and port protection.
Project Specification
This was a repeat order from our Malaysia client.
The foam-filled marine cushions were made in D150 × 95 mm size, with a length of 3 m per piece. The fender profile was straight type.
The inner material was EVA foam, and the outer surface used SPUA protective coating.
The SPUA coating thickness was 4 mm. For this project, we also reinforced the top area of the fender by adding extra thickness, because this area may receive more direct contact during use.

Quantity
This order included 10 pcs of foam-filled marine cushions.
Color
The fender color was black.
Black is a common color for marine fenders and cushion protectors, especially for ship, dock and port use where the surface may face seawater, sunlight and outdoor working conditions.
Advantage
This type of foam-filled marine cushion can be fully customized according to the project requirements.
The size, shape, length, foam density, coating thickness and color can be reviewed according to the client’s drawings or application photos.
The SPUA coating helps resist seawater, UV exposure, acid and alkaline environments. It also helps protect the EVA foam core from direct abrasion and outdoor damage.
Color options can include black, navy grey, orange or other colors according to the required color number.
With EVA foam inside and SPUA coating outside, this type of marine cushion provides good impact protection and is suitable for ship side, dock side and port protection applications.

Packing
At first, we used protection film to pack the foam-filled fenders together.

The shipment was arranged to Kuching, Malaysia, with transfer through Singapore. Because the cargo needed transshipment, we reviewed the packing method again to reduce the risk of damage during handling.
The first packing method could not be handled properly by port forklifts, so we added pallet legs under the fenders.
After further checking, we found that pallet legs still might not provide enough protection during transfer. To better protect the fenders, we finally customized plywood export cartons for this order.
Although the plywood export cartons increased the packing cost, this packing method helped protect the foam-filled marine cushions more safely during international shipment.
Below are packing photos showing the protection film, pallet leg adjustment and final plywood export carton used for this Malaysia shipment.
